Kokashi Ryu

This class teaches kids self-defense while strengthening them and improving their endurance and flexibility. Kokashi Ryu is a combination of karate and jujitsu. The student will learn the strikes and kicks from karate and throws, wrestling and joint locks from jujitsu.


The class begins with stretching and exercise. We cover the basic punches and kicks in each class. Then the class varies, at different times we will do jujitsu, karate kata, self-defense techniques or sparring drills.

The class is designed to be fun for the students while improving physical fitness and teaching them traditional martial arts.


Mondays & Wednesdays: 6:00-6:50pm.



Yang Style Taijiquan (T'ai Ch'i Chuan)

We teach traditional Yang style Taijiquan (or T'ai Chi Chuan). Our classes include the 24 section form, 48 section form, the 103 section form, the Taiji sabre and sword forms, Mr. Masich's two-man form and his two-man sword form, two-man sabre, spear training, qigong (chi kung) and tui sou or push hands exercises.

Taiji is a traditional Chinese martial art practiced for health, self-defense and as meditation. Taiji is an advanced form of qigong (energy work), part of traditional Chinese medicine. Taiji improves your posture and body mechanics, increases strength, flexibility and improves mental focus. Taiji is a low impact aerobic exercise. It is used for the prevention and treatment of cancer, heart problems, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis and many other health problems.


The forms are practiced slowly to develop coordination, the whole body moves as one. Moving slower increases strength, balance and endurance.


Taiji has many martial applications. The push hands training can teach you to deal with violence or force in a non-violent way. Learn the practical application of Taiji. Learn to use a persons strength against them. Advanced qigong, learn to manage your and your partners energy. Advanced training at using your partners energy for Aikido and Jujitsu practitioners.

I began studying Taiji in 1986. I met Sam Masich in 1990 and began to study with him. Mr. Masich taught me Taiji, qigong, tui sou, sword and sabre. I learned the 103 posture form, the sword and the sabre from Yang Zhen Duo. From Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming I learned aspects of Taiji, qigong, sword, sabre, white crane and Qinna (Chin na)


50+ Taijiquan Tuesdays & Thursdays: Noon to 12:50pm.

Adult Taijiquan Tuesdays & Thursdays: 6:00-7:20pm.

Push Hands or Tuishou Saturday: 10-11am.

Advincula's Combat Escrima

Master A.J. Advincula developed his system, Advincula's Combat Escrima, during his 70+ years of study. He was also a U.S. Marine hand to hand and weapons instructor. This class uses single stick, double stick, knife, sword and dagger and the double sword. Includes basics, combinations, partner drills and sparring. In class we practice with sticks for safety but use them as edged weapons.

Fridays: 6:00 to 7:15pm.



Machimura Itto Ryu Kobujitsu

The Machimura Itto Ryu is a Samurai sword system developed by Master Ronald Lindsey during his study of the sword during his 40 plus years of practice. This system covers Iaijitsu and Kenjitsu. We practice basics, kata, two person drills and sparring. This class is done with suburito, bokken and some live swords.


Saturdays: 11:00-12:20pm.

Hakutsuru Karate Jitsu

Hakutsuru karate is old style Okinawan karate based on the Chinese White Crane system. A soft system

that uses skill rather than force. Basics, kata and two man drills.

Strikes to vital points that require little power. Old martial arts techniques for self defense.

Saturdays: 12:30-1:30pm.

Weapon Classes

Okinawan Kobudo is the study of old Okinawan weapons. This includes the staff (bo), sai, tuifa (tonfa), eku (kai) and kama's. Traditional Japanese naginata (halbard). We practice basics, traditional Okinawan kata or forms, two man drills and sparring.



Isshin Ryu Karate Jitsu & Kobudo

Isshin Ryu Karate is a traditional Okinawan Karate system. Isshin Ryu uses very effective low kicks for self-defense. The punch is a vertical fist that is stronger and faster than the twist punch used by most styles.


Isshin ryu karate is a great exercise for improving your health and helping to develop good body mechanics. The class starts with some stretching and strengthening exercises. We then go through a set of basics that teach simple and effective self-defense while conditioning you aerobically. The class then varies depending on what the students are working on. We practice kata, two man sparring and drills, self-defense techniques, joint locks, throws and some grappling skills, some knife skills and Okinawan Kobudo (weapons).


Isshin Ryu was created by master Tatsuo (dragon man) Shimabuku. Mr. Shimabuku was an expert in Shorin Ryu, Goju Ryu and Okinawan Kobudo. He developed the innovative set of basic punches and kicks used in Isshin Ryu. He taught eight advanced empty hand kata and seven weapons kata.


I began Isshin Ryu in 1981 with Steve Vanderford and began training with Mr. Advincula in 1985.


Master A.J. Advincula started Isshin Ryu in 1958. He trained with Mr. Shimabuku on and off for over 17 years. He lived on Okinawa for seven years during those seventeen years.

Advincula sensei is a 9th dan in Isshin ryu karate & kobudo and also has dan rank in Shorin ryu, Goju ryu & Okinawan kobudo. He is also an expert in Escrima and Hindiandi kung fu.


Phan Ku Ryu Jujitsu     

Phan Ku Ryu is a traditional Japanese style of Jujitsu. Jujitsu means yielding technique and refers to the idea of using a person's energy against them. This system covers falls, throws, chokes, joint locks and strikes. It was designed for and taught to military personnel for unarmed combat.

The class also incorporates some Brazilian Jujitsu.

I also teach self-dense, knife fighting, qigong and push hands classes.
