Paul Bystedt Sensei

Mr. Bystedt started wrestling in Iowa in 1976. He started in Karate and Okinawan Kobudo in 1981. First Shorin Ryu, then Isshin Ryu.

In 1986 he began studying Advincula's Combat Escrima and Yang style Taijiquan.
He started training in Phan Ku Ryu in 1993.

He has trained in Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu, Hakutsuru Ryu Karate Jitsu and Matsumura Itto Ryu Iaijitsu.

He has done some training in Aikido, Bagua, Brazilian Jujitsu, Chinese White Crane, Kenpo, Praying Mantis, Qinna, Qigong and Xing I.

Mr. Bystedt has a B.S. in Kinesiology and an A.S. in Computer Programming.


He is a massage therapist who has studied acupressure, Chinese massage, Thai massage, sport massage & reflexology. He is also a personal trainer.

Mr. Bystedt has previously or is presently teaching at the Academy of Asian Martial Arts, STX Budokan, Texas A&M Corpus Christi (kine 1112 & 1133), Corpus Christi City Park & Rec's, YMCA, YWCA, Corpus Christi & Kingsville Naval Air Stations, Trinity Towers, CC Athletic Club, Senior Friends, Spohn Healthwise 55 and the Delos Mind-Body Institute.

Martial Arts Certification

Hachidan (8th degree black belt) in Isshin Ryu Karate and Kobudo.

Rokudan (6th black) and instructors certificate in Advincula’s Combat Escrima.

Godan (5th black) in Matsumura Itto Ryu Kobujitsu.

Yondan (4th black) in Hakutsuru Ryu Karate Jitsu.

Yondon (4th black) in Phan Ku Ryu Jujitsu.

Mr. Bystedt has taught martial arts classes since 1983.
