My Karate Instructors
I started Karate in 1981. First in Shorin Ryu and then Isshin Ryu with Mr. Steve Vanderford. He introduced me to Mr. A.J. Advincula in 1985. I first met Mr. Ronald Lindsey at a Matsumura Seito Shorin Camp in LaGrange, Texas around the same time.
Mr. Advincula trained in Isshin Ryu with Tatsuo Shimabuku on Okinawa. He was called Kata Jin (Kata man) for his knowledge of and skill in forms. Mr. Advincula has trained in martial arts since 1946. He has an 8th degree blackbelt in Isshin Ryu, a fifth in Kobudo, a third in Gojo Ryu, a blackbelt in Shorin Ryu and has trained in escrima since 1946. While on Okinawa he also trained in Hindiandi Gung Fu, Kobudo and Ueichi Ryu.
Mr. Lindsey has trained in the martial arts over forty years, he began teaching in 1971. His is a ninth degree blackbelt in Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu Karate and Kobudo. He trained with Seikichi Odo in Okinawan Kenpo. He later developed the Machimura Ito Ryu Iaijitsu and Kenjitsu system from his twenty five years of work with the sword. In the 1980's he began researching Fukein Chinese and Okinawan White Crane systems.
Mr. Lindsey served as an officer with the U.S. Army on Okinawa in the late 60's as an MP. While there he often attended classes six times a week. The classes could last up to four hours at a time. He has studied with Hohan Soken, Seisan Kinjo, Fuse Kisei, Yuichi Kuda, Takaya Yabiku and other Okinawan instructors.
